Our Recent Adventures @madtravel_ph

Each of our experiences creates multiple sources of income for our partner communities. Thanks for going on #adventuresthatmatter 🙏🏽
Packing light means two things -
.
First it means you're more agile and ready to walk, run, or ride your way to any new adventure.
.
Second but equally important is it means you get to rethink what you really need to buy and take with you. Limiting the things you pack will force you to make smarter purchases and slowly (and responsibly) get rid of your excess.
.
Next time you pack your usual bag, challenge yourself to not fill it up.

One of our founders* likes to make the joke that guests of our Tribes and Treks Zambales tour can ride Grab Car(abao)s...don't tell him, but we think it's a pretty funny joke 😜
.
Carabaos do more than take your tired butts from our tour's jumpoff point to the stops and back - they're crucial for helping the community rebuild its rainforest. 🐃 Guests of the Tribes and Treks Zambales tour have been able to provide three additional carabaos for the Aetas of Yangil to use. This is another way tourism can be used to help create long-term impact.

One of our stopovers on the way to the Village in Yangil. One of our guides was telling us how this place used to be filled with trees. As you can see there are so much mountains around this area that have huge bald spots and patches of trees.
-
Trees hold up a certain amount of water and since there arent many trees left in the area, floods are more prone. When it rains in the mountain, it creates mud slides because of the lack of trees to absorb all the rain water. The water brings down the mud and gets into the river in which the river brings it to the ocean where all sorts of corals and sea creatures live. The corals get covered in mud and eventually die and sea creatures leave or die. Not only do the sea creatures and corals get affected by having the lack of trees. Farmers cant plant properly because of the flooding.
-
So what can we do to prevent this from happening? Use paper wisely, borrow, share or donate books, spread awareness and of course plant trees. 🌳 last weekend, we planted a thousand trees and hoping that in 10 years we would see their progress.✨ The earth takes care of us, lets return the favor. We can all save this planet together. 💕
How come milk chocolate isn't just called...CaCow? 🐄
.
GREAT jokes aside - we know where to get all the best cacao products in Aurora. They make the perfect post-surf treats. Keep an eye out for a cacao farm next time you're there 👀

WET WIPES are NOT just wet...wipes 😅
.
Most wet wipes are made with polyester (that's plastic that does not decompose) and treated to ensure they stay - yes you guessed it - wet. That means when you throw them out they take a loooooooooooong time to disappear and end up contributing to the already ironically big micro-plastic problem. Get it? 'Cause it's a BIG problem about SMALL things?
.
We hope you get the point (and not the wet wipe) 😜
Put on your thinking hats because we're about to get science-y!
.
Rainy season is just about starting which means we're unfortunately bound to experience some flooding. Here's why that happens -
.
The Upper Marikina Watershed is Manila's main "catchment area" aka catch basin. Catch basins are basically nature's way of catching all the rain that should go into rivers and streams. When catch basins are properly forested, the canopy helps slow the downpour of rain and the roots help absorb much of that downpour. That means the water that does leave the catch basin is minimal, slow, and clean (so the catch basin does not overflow and we don't have floods). The Upper Marikina Watershed is sadly not properly forested, so all the rain just runs through the soil and down to our cities - resulting in rampant and dirty floods...who wants that?? 🙅🏽‍♂
.
We often think of deforestation as a problem distant from the city. That's simply not the case. The lack of trees in our mountains affects us everyday. The good news is there's always something we can do about it.
.
We talk and do more about nature on our Rizal tour. Join us one of these weekends. Check out our website for more details!
