Our Recent Adventures @madtravel_ph

“During a lull on one of the Tribes and Treks tours in Zambales, the chieftain came up to me to say that we need to move everything earlier so that we can go home in an hour or two. He was certain it was going to rain soon. I was doubtful because the sun was shining brightly and I had checked the weather forecast a day before. The forecast had no mention of rain. But I decided to trust his word anyway.
True enough, it rained an hour or so later, while we were walking back from the community. Moral of the story: indigenous knowledge trumps any weather forecast app.” - @andreaalegaspi, chief experience officer for Luzon

P.S. @kuyakim_atienza, are you shaking rn 😂

Rt @itstimjohnson "How did I get so lucky? to call this work. ⁣
⁣.
This past weekend I travelled to San Felipe, Zambales, home to the Yangil Tribe of the indigenous Aeta’s. ⁣
something I have learnt about Filipino culture, it is so inclusive - you are never a stranger and your new family awaits you with open arms and an open heart. ⁣
⁣.
This weekend was magical, no words can accurately sum up everything, so I’ll let the photos tell the story! #TupuToaAbroad #ThinkAsia"
Don’t just get a room with a forest view, get a room that plants a forest too!
.
We’re excited to announce our newest project with Eco Hotels Tagaytay-- Book A Room, Plant a Tree. Now, everytime you stay at The Containers or at The Cabins by Eco Hotel, you can buy 1 tree with your room for just Php 150! You can even choose which seed you’d want us to plant from the list of the needed fruit and forest trees by our community partners.
.
P.S. If you’re a hotel/hostel/b&b, let us know if you want to be part of this project too! Just shoot us an email at info@madtravel.org :)
“Nature is a tool we can use to repair our broken climate.” (Monbiot)

Last year, MAD Travel won the Japan Good Design Award alongside bamboo bikes, salt powered lamps, minimalist coffee cups, wearable technology… Yup, we won a “design” award!
.
When we hear design, we usually think of something like posters, chairs, buildings, something visual or tangible. But design can be extended to our experiences. “No matter tangible or intangible, Good Design Award will take it as design, evaluate and honor its quality, as long as it is created to fulfill certain ideals or purposes.” (from the Good Design Award Website)
.
Our purpose is to educate people on how they can do good while travelling. We’re thrilled & proud to be recognized for it! We couldn’t have done any of these without our partners who have designed these experiences with us since the beginning - @thecirclehostel and @gkenchantedfarm 👏🏽 This is not an excuse to rest— there are stories waiting to be told, lands waiting to be reforested, and paths waiting to be explored. Join us on any of our tours! Learn more at www.madtravel.org 🌳🇵🇭🌏
Many people offer to buy this land from us, then they want to make our waterfalls bigger...but we don’t sell because we want the forest to stay as it is. It was made this way.
.
The forest is our gym, our school, our supermarket,
our swimming pool, our laundromat, our shower, and
our drugstore - it provides us with everything, that’s
why we need to protect it.
- Ate Erlinda, Chieftain of the Aeta Ambala Tribe,
Bataan (Translated Interview, 2019)

“There is a magic machine that sucks carbon out of the air, costs very little, and builds itself. It’s called a tree.” - Monbiot .
PSA: A reminder to save your fruit seeds daily! What you think is trash, is a gift to future generations and especially to our partners in Zambales, Bataan, Rizal, and Aurora. 🌱
.
Please send your seeds over to @seednationph
We swear, it’s not photoshopped!
.
SBMA is a bustling metropolis, a former American base with a port and an airport, hailed as a growth sector for the economy and lauded for its environmental balance with lush forests in the area and clean waters.
.
That balance is now at danger-- the forest areas shrinking, numbers of mangroves decreasing, and waters becoming polluted. The indigenous tribes who own the ancestral domain in the area are unable to take part in the economy, and so while the city gets richer, the forest area stays poor. The challenge is to use eco-tourism and agri-tourism to come up with an economy for the forest and environment. If the forest earns money, then people will protect it.
.
Trek with us under thousand year old trees and learn about their secrets on our Bataan: Forests & Folklore Tour. Book a spot today at www.madtravel.org
RT @Issabarte.art “We’ve called it extraordinary for anyone to care about something other than themselves. We need to change that narrative— we need to make caring about things that are not ourselves the norm. We cannot continue to exist as we do now, we need to start to coexist. In my naivety, i had thought that caring about the environment was common sense, but now that I understand better, I am working on trying to make people think again. This is our home, we cannot fail.” .
The world is waking up and is wanting to make a difference! Changes can be done in countless ways - in one's own lifestyle, in one's fashion, food consumption, and even in one’s way of travelling. It all takes a few changes in what we were taught was the “norm” in order to truly counter the climate crisis that our species is facing.
