About the Communities

Come meet some of the wonderful communities whom we are fortunate enough to work with!

The Aeta Tribe of Yangil, Zambales

“Ang pera, pwedeng nakawin. Ang buto, kahit nakawin, itatanim pa rin sa lupa at papakinabangan ng aking mga anak at apo."

"Money can be stolen. The seed, even if stolen, will still be planted and will benefit and feed my children and grandchildren."

 - Kuya Erese, Former Chieftain of Yangil

These wise and moving words from Kuya Erese started our work at MAD Travel. Kuya Erese and the Aeta tribe in Yangil village live on 3,000 hectares of denuded ancestral land. There, we have partnered to grow an agro-forest (agricultural forest) with the aim to feed and become a source of income for their community.

The Aeta Community of Bataan

“Pasalamat kami sa Diyos dahil merong gubat.

"Thank God we have the forest."

 - Ate Erlinda, Aeta community leader of Bataan

Nestled in the forests of Subic, Ate Erlinda is an Aeta woman leading her community in protecting and preserving their environment through sustainable tourism and forest-products - such as the honey you can purchase at the MAD Market. We are grateful for her trust, leadership and passion as we work hand-in-hand with her in growing our shared dream of an abundant agroforest alongside protected mountain forests for everyone to enjoy for generations to come.
